The exponential growth in information production and storage has made information management a serious challenge.

To meet that challenge, content management vendors are allying themselves with storage vendors.

With both storage vendors and content management vendors involved, you can imagine that there’s some debate over exactly what information lifecycle management or ILM means.

From networking and storage perspective ILM is driven by cost, security, scalability, and reliability.

On the other hand, records management’s "RM" take on ILM is concerned with matters of business utility and compliance relative to regulation and policy.
