Thousands Strike at LG
Plant in Nanjing China
December 28, 2011
Thousands of factory workers have gone on strike in eastern China,
halting work at a South Korean-owned electronics manufacturer.
About 8,000 workers stopped work at the LG Display factory in Nanjing
city in a protest over year-end bonuses.
The
workers say South Korean employees at the plant received the equivalent
of six months' pay, while Chinese workers were given just one month's
wages.
Company and government officials confirmed that the employees have been
on strike since Monday.
Thousands of Chinese workers have gone on strike in recent months,
complaining of low salaries and poor working conditions.
